Live scan is digital fingerprint submission transmitted electronically to the California Department of Justice (DOJ). Live scan is an automated service for criminal history background checks that may be required as a condition of employment, licensing, certification, foreign adoptions or VISA/Immigration clearances.

Live Scan is now a streamlined process and does not require a paper form; instead, appointments can be scheduled online at a location nearest you via www.applicantservices.com/calnorth. The price for a Live Scan typically ranges from $18 to $25 in-person, however mobile services are $20 per transaction. Capital Live Scan operates on a pay-as-you-go model for member organizations and coaches. This model includes efficient software via Applicant Services that helps Member Services track who has been live scanned, who has scheduled an appointment, and who still needs to be live scanned. The following list of FAQs breaks down Cal North's Live Scan procedures for all new applicants.

      Livescan FAQ's

Below are some of the frequently asked questions regarding the Livescan process.

      How do I pay?
      • Pre-paid codes will be bought by clubs if the club decides to cover it.
      • Payment is offered via the online portal as well which clears up the issue of collecting payment.
      What is the cost?
      • Mobile Services $20
      • Walk Ins $25

Reminder: All Live Scan Fingerprinting must be done through the Portal.

      Cal North Live Scan Portal

Applicants can use a one-time use passcode to login, rather than a password (6 character code).

      What is the process?
      • The DOJ uses arrests and corresponding disposition information reported by sheriff, police and probation departments, district attorney offices, and the courts to compile records of arrest and prosecution.
      • Reporting is only on crimes committed within the State of California and is based on fingerprint submission only.
      • Administrators must register in the Cal North registration application, through the Cal North Live Scan Portal, find a Capital Live Scan vendor, and then go to be fingerprinted.
      • Pass/Fail results are entered into spreadsheets by Capital Live Scan. Any result from the DOJ is a Fail. Blank return from DOJ is a pass.
      • Cal North COR enters the pass/ fail result in Cal North registration application
How long does it take to get results after completing?
      • Cal North can receive results as quick as 3-5 days after getting fingerprinted, however there can be delays that can delay this to a few weeks.
      • With a higher volume of results, this process can take longer than expected as these results are manually entered by livescan.
Where can I go to get my Live Scan done?

Applicants can select a walk-in appointment registration or a special event for Cal North to go to get live scanned.

For live scan events, please reach out to your club for details.

For Walk ins, a list of Capital Live Scan vendors will be provided to you upon registering through the Cal North Portal.

However here is a list of locations.

      Delays & App Rejects
      Delays:
      • Delays occur when someone enters incorrect information (e.g. First name is Robert, registers as Bob) and matches cannot be made with DOJ results.
      • Delays can also occur if fingerprints are smudged or incorrect placement and has to be manually adjusted.

What happens if my livescan is rejected?

In a small percentage of applicants, transactions may be rejected due to poor fingerprint quality. If you received a notice of rejection for this reason, please follow the procedures below:

      1. Go back to our website, www.ApplicantServices.com/calnorth
      2. Click on Transaction History

      1. Use your email to access the page (just like how you created the transaction)
      2. Click on your transaction (if you don’t see it, change the date range)
      3. Scroll down a little to the section that says “Available Options for
      4. Then click on the "Resubmit" link to initiate the resubmission process.
      5. Select a new appointment date/time with the same Live Scan location (you use the same location)
      6. Bring the QR Code and Payment ID.
      7. Then go to the appointment to be re-fingerprinted.
If the applicant was fingerprinted at an onsite event, you will need to notify us within 28 days of the fingerprint date. We can then send it back through remotely for a resubmission.

If the applicant is rejected a 2nd time, the DOJ will initiate a name check that bypass the live scan. It will also mention that if you see "2nd app reject" for an applicant, read the bottom of their results and you will see the verbiage.
