US Soccer has released the new Blended formats for the Grassroots 4v4, 7v7, 9v9, 11v11 and D Course, and will soon release the new Virtual format. The Blended In-Person format will consist of 2 hours online guided instruction with a US Soccer licensed instructor. Coaches will be asked to participate in discussions so each person should have access to a web-camera/live video capabilities. The field session will follow the online session within 2-7 days and will be conducted under all COVID-19 policies with no players required. Coaches may be asked to participate in the field component as either coaches or players, so please come prepared to actively learn. The blended format is now ready, and can be presented.
The Virtual In-Person format should be ready for presentation by mid-September. For Coaches who take this completely virtual course, you will be guided by a licensed instructor through four hours total of education. Coaches can expect two hours of virtual interaction to discuss the Six Tasks, Grassroots Coaching Education Philosophy, and Play-Practice-Play Methodology followed by two hours of video analysis (guided by the instructor) of demonstrations of on-field coaching for this specific age group.
Now is a great time for leagues and clubs to host these courses for coaches, and best of all courses can be completed from the comfort and safety of their own homes. Nonetheless, the best part about the new course formats is the cost and organizational savings to your leagues and clubs. With no classroom, field or players needed for the virtual courses we hope that you take advantage of these new options. The option for your organization to host closed courses for your convenience is still available upon request.
We have the updated course information and hosting packet and online course application now posted on the Cal North website. For additional information, please contact Cal North’s Coaching Education Program Manager, Joyce Bordley by emailing jbordley@calnorth.org.
